The 2017-2018 Black Diamond Helio 105 is a lightweight carbon touring ski. Designed for long missions in softer snow, the Helio 105 is one of the widest skis in our demo fleet, and certainly the lightest of our bigger mountain options. Stiff, responsive, and much more stable than the ski they replace in BD's fleet - the Carbon Convert - the Helio 105 is a dream for skiers looking for downhill performance in a light 1500g ski.
In addition, traditional camber underfoot and subtle tail rocker actually provide a great deal of effective edge, allowing for plenty of control and precision on firm snow. The Helio 105 doesn't shine in icy or bumpy conditions, but its overall performance makes the ski a more than adequate quiver of one.
We've mounted these bad boys with the Fritschi Tecton 12 tech binding, a binding that is dubbed by some as the "Kingpin Killer." How come? Well, they're arguably the safest tech binding on the market thanks to their solid, alpine-like heel and and the lateral travel that they afford in the toe piece. Combine that with an easier step-in and a weight savings of nearly 100g compared to the Marker Kingpin and suddenly the Tecton is a contender for the best hard-charging tech binding ever made. Come check 'em out!

*The Tecton binding is NOT compatible with Dynafit TLT or Scarpa Alien boots due to the narrow front units of these boots. However, the '17-'18 Alien RS is compatible. The Tecton doesn't work with Tronic-System boots due to their heel units.
These skis pair well with our Dynafit Radical rental boots, but we can work with almost any boot with "tech" style inserts in the toe and heel (see above).
We will not pair skis with NTN boots or any other boots with bellows (eg. Scarpa F3).
***ALL AT BOOT AND SKI RENTALS REQUIRE A COMPLEMENTARY BOOT-BINDING ADJUSTMENT BY ONE OF OUR TECHS. We also require that the end user pick up the equipment at the store to sign liability paperwork and receive instruction***
