November Events

Temperatures drop and rain begins to fall in the city...This can mean only one thing, snow is coming to a mountain range near you! Memories of early morning wake up calls, driving to the pass, skinning uphill through old growth forests in search of fresh tracks before work begin to fill my every thought. According to Cliff Mass the proverbial winter weather switch has been flipped and we could not be more excited!

Backcountry Education Series with BCAG

Second Ascent is psyched to be teaming up with Backcountry Adventure Guides for an in & out of store education series to get you familiar with your gear and comfortable in the backcountry. We're starting off the in-store series with a hands-on backcountry Camp Cookery Class followed by a free Winter Packing and multiple Tour Planning classes.

November 4th @ 7:45 at Second Ascent

 FREE Avalanche Clinic with NWAC

Attention snowboarders, skiers, xc skiers, snowshoers, snowmobilers, and anyone that enjoys time in the snow: get ready for the season and learn the basics necessary for making every trip out to the backcountry, a round trip.

For another year, we're teaming up with the Northwest Avalanche Center and providing the opportunity for folks to understand the dangers of going into avalanche terrain and how to further their education.
Matt Schonwald will be providing the classes and we'll be providing refreshments to the attendees as well as a few giveaways each session!

November 11th - Living with Grizzly Bears

Second Ascent @ 7:45

Washington’s North Cascades is a federally designated Grizzly Bear Recovery Zone. What might the restoration of these iconic animals mean for those of us who live, work, and play in the wild landscapes of the Pacific Northwest?

Enjoy photos and stories from biologist, photographer, author and outdoor educator David Moskowitz’s work and travels across landscapes where grizzly bears roam. Learn how to distinguish grizzly bears from black bears, both from animals you have seen and their tracks and signs, and the differences in behavior of these two species.

It's that time of year again - our REEL ROCK Film Tour Fundraiser benefiting the American Alpine Club (AAC) is back!

We're excited to bring our largest annual event back to the community with the spirit of giving 100% of the profits to the AAC. Their advocacy and leadership keep climbing areas open, and both inspire and educate future generations.

Through our local business and climbing brands, we're psyched to have the support of companies: Georgetown Brewing, Schiling Cider, Convoy Coffee, Petzl, Exped, Mammut, Five Ten, Arcteryx, Scarpa, Patagonia, La Sportiva, Evolv, Osprey, Sterling, Metolius, KRAVE Jerky, Big Agnes, prAna and SoIll.

A great time, a great cause, great beer, cider & coffee, for a great sport.
